The game Sims 2 (a computer game in which you create virtual characters who interact with each other) now lets you send your teen Sims to university. In the instructions about the majors Sims students can pursue the creators describe Sims who study Philosophy (= 'dead guys who taught stuff') as
'not only great conversationalists at campus parties'
(which is surely also true of real Philosophy majors) but also able to strive towards illustrious careers...
'in the Slacker field or seek work in the Culinary or Paranormal disciplines.'
Of these, 'Slacker' is the field that Philosophy students are best prepared for 'because of their similiarity in skill requirements.' So there you have it. It could be worse though: those who study Mathematics, we are told, get a good foundation for a career in Science...or possibly in the Criminal field.
One of the finer parts of The Sims 2 is the ability to edit and adjust aspects of the game. There are a few programs and tutorials out there to adjust things like job/education descriptions, and being the lover of philosophy that I am, I have been tempted to re-create the way it lists in the game. Particularly the careers you can have and some descriptions. However, while I would consider myself industrious enough, I simply do not have the time needed!

What really cracked me up is the 4th year description: Philosophy Senior Project: Preparing for the fast food industry.
